Registration for “Book of The Night” online fall workshop is now open. Workshop officially begins September 15, 2011. You can work along with me as I post chapters on a weekly program, or you may follow at your own pace. Workshop materials will be available from September 15 - December 15. You may register at any time during this period, but it will be your responsibility to download all materials by course end.

Workshop Description:

Welcome Princes of Darkness and Queens of the Underworld:
Let us experiment with various techniques and textures to prepare black pages in a Book of the Night. This is a magical and wounded book of blackened pages and dark nights of the soul reaching out for the light by combining cryptic tales with potent imagery - valuable tools for self expression. In these frightfully beautiful and haunted pages, your Book will reflect a night of the dead, of spirits calling, of witchery, mysterious dark cloaked figures beneath a full moon. Imagine a haunted Gothic mansion beside an old cemetery where we are told of an old manuscript in a moth eaten velvet lined trunk: A Book of the Night. The raven, a messenger from the spirit world, has powerful information for you that can only be scribbled, painted, written, drawn or glued in the safety of these tender dark pages. Spirits of the dead and long forgotten tales of you begin to clang chains and moan and reach out for an authentic life. Bring your creatures of the night to light in the pages of your Extreme Journal. Like the Bride of Frankenstein, we’ll piece ourselves together from the long discarded remnants of self. You call that darkness? It’s beautiful.

Workshop Syllabus:

In this unique Online workshop you will be guided through my radical self dialogue techniques that combine words with images. Utilizing mixed media, we will create various backgrounds, textures and dark surfaces to work back into. This course focuses on process, not product, though you will learn many useful techniques for preparing pages as well discover easy (so to speak) tools for creating an inner dialogue for transformation and healing. Discover the excitement as you learn these revolutionary methods of how to layer different art materials to create depth and richness to the pages of your Extreme Visual Journal (these techniques will translate to any other form of artwork). You will be introduced to this internationally recognized process that combines journal writing( yes you can) with art making (you won’t believe what you can do) in the safe container of a mixed media book of self exploration. Learn to investigate and document the world around you through process and experimentation.

In this workshop you will learn:

* how to develop unique and personal lettering forms
* how to tell the story of your life
* the practice of journal writing and how to get writing/text into your pages
* how to layer or prep dark pages and how to work back into them w/ images
* how to access personal symbolism
* about different book forms as container for this unique process
* new mediums and artistic tools
* how to combine words with imagery for self dialogue, transformation, & healing
* the art of self expression: how to express yourself as only you can.
* how to discover your authentic voice and gain powerful insight into your own expression

This Workshop is presented in 5 chapters in at least 5 printable “booklets” (each booklet is 16-24 pages) - these booklets include the introduction with a discussion of how to choose your book. The following Chapters provide a materials list and go into detail how to prep your book. Each lesson plan will be presented in full color PDF files suitable for viewing on a computer, MP3 audio files to download and listen to while you work, and supportive video. The Tribal Forum: This workshop is enhanced by sharing with fellow journalists in optional discussion forums to help you gain valuable insight into your work from myself as facilitator and moderator, as well as receiving tremendous support and inspiration from your new found tribe.

$95.00 for Workshop includes all materials: video, audio, gorgeous pdf lesson plan files-yes, you can print a low res copy in page order from this file, & tribal forum discussions moderated by me.

Course content will be available from September 15 - December 15, 2011, no exceptions! I monitor group discussions or “Tribal Councils” for safety and choose a few each week to comment on. Once I receive payment, I will send you two email invites, one from Ning, please sign up or sign in, and one from Shutterfly where I have the class video. Check your trash folder as well for the invites. These invitations are sent manually, and I do not check email 24/7, so please be patient. If you sign up on a Friday-Sunday, you will not receive your invites until Monday. It is your responsibility to sign up as soon as you receive these invites.You will also receive a very detailed email explaining how to use the workshop.
