You can work along with me on a weekly program, or work at your own pace. Workshop materials will be available from July 5 -September 30, 2010. You may register at any time during this period, but it is your responsibilty to download all materials by course end.

For beginning as well as seasoned Visual Journalists

Join an expedition team of Visual Journalists on a Summer Art Tour and learn to combine notes from the field with a sketchbook of sorts while creating a book of reminders that begins with your own imagery. This unique book will become your constant traveling companion: an enlightened witness to your remarkable journey. Create on site: while vacationing, camping, picnicking, with friends at a cafe, alone in a restaurant, in your own backyard, at a store, a gallery, anywhere you can go, your extreme journal as testament to the journey, will travel with you. Simple drawings, collages, mixed media, writings and observations will be the foundation for your Extreme Visual Journaling process when you return to the studio to deepen the experience.

You don’t have to be a world traveler to see the world: it is right in your own backyard, or on your front porch, or out your window, down the street, at your favorite cafe, or pressed between the pages of a sketchbook as extreme visual journal. It’s time to get out of the studio, workshop, or home office and take a field trip with your “Journal Mobil Unit.” You won’t need a lot of mixed media materials but you will require a basic Sketching/Journaling tool kit that will contain your book as well as a few supplies. Each Journalist’s day tripping kit will be different. You will love how these quick notes and sketches become intricate Extreme Visual Journal pages as I give you the tools to complete these gestural images with creative assignments aimed at guiding you to explore your personal mythology.

Each booklet describes in great depth this process of Extreme Journaling and introduces you to my philosophy as well as provide resources and reference materials to support your ongoing study of this unique form of active meditation!

Basic Workshop Description
This Workshop is presented in 5 chapters in at least 5 pdf Lesson plans (each file is 16-24 pages). That includes the introduction with a discussion of how to choose your book. The following Chapters provide a materials list, how to create your Journal Mobil Unit, and go into detail how to prep your book, how to get set up in the field with very specific and fun assignments, as well as how to collect information from the world around you. You will also receive advanced sketching and notetaking assignments, as well as more in depth Extreme Visual Journaling assignments that take our journal pages where we left off in the field to develop them into something more meaningful. This takes our Book of Reminders to another level of intensity and will include a materials list for further exploration utilizing mixed media. Each lesson plan will be presented in full color PDF files suitable for viewing on a computer. You can print this version as well.( a PDF in printable high res booklet format is now available to be able to print up your own workshop lesson plan in a booklet format - no more cutting and pasting! what a great idea!), MP3 audio files to download and listen to while you work, and supportive video. I am a story teller, and provide you with an audio version of each lesson so that my voice accompanies and encourages your entire journey, just like in a real workshop with me!
This workshop is enhanced by sharing with fellow journalists in optional discussion forums by gaining valuable insight into your work from myself as facilitator and moderator, while receiving tremendous support and cool ideas from your newfound tribe.

Course content will be available from July 5 until September 30, 2010, no exceptions! All materials will be available for download until Sept. 30. I monitor group discussions or “Tribal Councils” for safety and choose a few each week for general discussion. You can work at your own pace, or you can follow along in the weekly program. Once I recieve payment, I will send you two email invites, one from Ning, please sign in, and one from shutterfly for class video. Please check your trash folder as well. It is your responsiblilty to sign up as soon as you recieve these invites.
